Why we gather

The Heart Behind the Event

Mary Rapelje spent her life lifting up the people around her. While going through her own cancer treatment, she was deeply grateful for the support and care she had — and her heart ached for the patients and families who didn’t have the same.

Blackout for Hope carries that compassion forward. Money raised helps individuals and families facing cancer through the Mary Rapelje Memorial Fund at Bronson Health Foundation, which has covered needs like housing support, nutritional supplements, and medical equipment, and through programs like Beautiful You, which helps patients feel like themselves during treatment.

Wear black. Come together. Give hope.
